Galatians 6:7: “Reap the Beauty of Life”
7 Do not be deceived; God is not mocked, for you reap whatever you sow.
As Christian, we are demanded to do the good things any time to our neighbors. In our doctrine
we are never taught to do evil as long as we live. However some Christians feel boring to do
good things because they are tempted to see some neighbors who do not do the good things but
their lives look so happy, more money, and more friends. But the word of the Lord saying: all
must test their own work, then that work, rather than their neighbor’s work, will become cause
for pride. For all must carry their own loads (v. 4-5). Every peole has responsibility for what
he/she has done in his/her lives. As our text today: for what you reap whatever you sow.
In Batak culture also has taught us that anything it is, that every cause brings its effect, every
action has a consequence. Halak Batak saying: molo sinuan hassang, hassang do na tubu, molo
sinuan gadong, gadong do na tubu, molo sinuan na denggan sai na denggan do na ro, molo
sinuan na roa sai na roa do na ro. If someone plants peanuts he will reap peanuts, plants cassava
will reap cassava, and this is true of everyone’s life: good begets goods and evil leads to evil. But
we might be thinking, why some people doing evil but their lives are good. Yes true enough, the
sun shines on the holy one and the sinner alike. But remember life keep books on us all, and we
are all the sum total of our actions.
God do not let Himself will be mocked by the evil things. Even though we see people doing evil
and as if God doesn’t look at them, and let them get the good things every day. Not that way.
God will not evil will mock God. Do not be deceived and do not let yourself will be influenced
by evil. If we sow evil will reap evil but if we sow the good things will reap the good things from
God.
Therefore since now on let us nourish our beautiful life with the good things, create a Godly
character in your daily life. Character requires time and nurturing for growth and development.
We can do the good things not only just a moment but we need to grow in it, and the good things
become our character here in STB-HKBP, but we must practice and repeat it every day, extend
to others, and never give up.
What we are today is the result of what we did in the past. Our positions, grade, attitude,
character is the result of what we have practiced in the past. We cannot fully blame our parents,
society, friends, or teachers. We, as a person, need to take a decision what I should have in my
life as my treasure. Many things out of our control will influence us to do evil, but do not let your
heart will be stolen by evil. Remember, one day we must come before the judgment seat of
Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body,
whether good or evil (2Cor. 5:10).
How about tomorrow? Yes of course it must be the result of what we do today. We can change,
if we do not like what we are today. If you do not want the C or D grade, we can change our way
of study. If we do not like to be a bad girl, harm others, jealous one, of course we can change it.
How? In 2Cor. 5:17 saying: so if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation, everything old has
passed away; see everything become new. In Christ we will have the beauty of life, if you just
walk with Him in His will not in human’s will. But remember such change comes slowly, not
overnight. Romans. 12:1-2: be transformed by renewing of your minds, so that you may discern
what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
We must begin sowing today, if we want reap the good things tomorrow. This is a choice for our
faith. Yes true that God always prepare the good things for us, but remember there is evil who
always try to persuade us to leave God’s way. In the next verses (8-10) mentioned: 8 If you sow
to your own flesh, you will reap corruption from the flesh; but if you sow to the Spirit, you will
reap eternal life from the Spirit. 9 So let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will
reap at harvest time, if we do not give up. 10 So then, whenever we have an opportunity, let us
work for the good of all, and especially for those of the family of faith.
We are given two options, either we sow to the flesh (8a cf. Gal. 5:19-21) or we sow to the
Spirit. Those who sow flesh will reap corruption (sorrow, disease, damnation etc.) but those who
sow to the Spirit will reap everlasting life or salvation. How do I know it: Watch your fruit of
actions, when you bear love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness,
and self-control, those are the characters of the Spirit.
Let’s sow to the Spirit by doing good to all, especially to our fellow here in STB-HKBP. Please
doing good to your friends, sisters, lecturers, parents, and everyone around you. Do not worry
about your life that can bring you to hopeless, boring, and giving up. For God is able to bless you
abundantly. So that in all things at all times having all that you need, you will abound in every
good work. So don’t be jealous to the people who are doing evil and as if they have good life, for
God do not let people mocking the good things and God’s will. For you will reap what you sow.
As Jesus disciples let’s try and start to plants the good things every day, start from today and
you will see the beauty of life even though you face the difficulties, sickness, pain, and
weakness. For the beauty of life is God’s blessing for those who sow the good things and they
will inherit the everlasting life. Therefore please keep obedience to our God in doing your
responsibility before God, and believe what you are doing every day. Do not doubt (Mark
16:16); Growing in the grace and knowledge of Christ. Don’t give up when you fail for God also
knows your heart. God will be glorified with all godly things that believers have done in this
world. Amen.
